Mystery Monday: Alma Lycett

I have a huge series of photos that look to be Llewellyn and some friends on a trip. This could coincide with the travel places in the front of her diary, or it could be a whole other time. After discussing it with my Aunts, they said most likely it was a Church trip. That makes the most sense to me also. This picture is a little different from my usual Mystery Monday photos. I know who this is. Her name is Alma Lycett. I know this because it was written on the back of the photo and I made sure to label the file when I scanned it. A quick census search shows the closest match in age and name is Alma M Lycett, who lived in Norwalk, Connecticut. Llewellyn’s travel list shows her visiting Middletown, New Haven and Hartford Connecticut in July of 1923. Interesting.

I’m really putting this photo up for anyone who may be searching for Alma someday. Hopefully I’ve used the right keywords to bring someone here.

Things I know about this picture

  • My Grandfather is the young child front and center. The older girl is holding him up.

Things I want to know about this picture

  • Who are the other children?
  • If they are related, which side of the family are they from? William’s? Llewellyn’s?
  • If it is through Llewellyn, then is it through the Thorwards or the Loves?
  • It could be a collection of children from different families, a family reunion maybe?

Mystery Monday is an ongoing series I’m doing to showcase the photos I am having problems identifying. I hope one day someone will land on the site and recognize a relative!

Mystery Monday: #004

Another Monday, Another Mystery picture.

Clifford H Redford and ?

What I Know:

  • Clifford Herbert Redford (my great-grandfather) is sitting in the front row on the left.
  • The back of this picture has Clifford’s name and William Herbert Moore
  • No one in the family believes that Moore is connected to our Moores. I beg to differ. There are no coincidences.
  • It would be Clifford’s daughter, a Redford, who would marry my grandfather,  a Moore.

What I Want to Know:

  • Is this William Herbert Moore related to my Moores? Since I don’t believe in coincidences, I find it hard to believe the William H Moore coincidence. If I’m right and my William H Moore had brothers who moved to America with him, wouldn’t it make sense if there was another line of Moores living in Essex County? Maybe that’s the reason my William retired to Caldwell, New Jersey. Maybe he had family close.
  • Who are the others? Are these school buddies? Work buddies? It does certainly look like a bunch of guys having a bit of fun for the afternoon, dressing up.

Mystery Monday: #002 Who’s the Lady?

Today’s Mystery Monday centers around this fine lady. I first noticed her in my first Scan-Go-Round. I noticed probably about 4 copies of the picture on the right. Then in my second Scan-Go-Round, I finally found a face front shot of her.

Things I know about this picture:

  • Is not Josephine Doremus.
  • Most likely a woman connected to the Thorward side of the family.

Mystery Monday: Unknown Boys

Usually a Monday post would be something randomly thought up by myself, or it would have something to do with Madness Monday at GeneaBloggers. There is certainly enough madness to go around today. I’m deep into my 2010 Cleanup (Personal and Genealogy). On the genealogy front, I need to shape up my website a bit more in the design area. I would like a seamless transition between the main site and the blog. All my issues will be addressed in my next re-design. I just have to be patient enough to let them be for awhile!

Getting back on subject, since I don’t want to bore you guys with constant website nitpicking. I decided that since I have 1,000,000,000.9 unsolved photo mysteries, why not showcase one every Monday. Maybe someday, a person will come along that can help me solve it. It’s also a great way for me to let my extended family see a lot of these photos!

Mystery Monday #001

The background behind this photo is… nothing. There was nothing written on the back, there isn’t a group of photos anything like it. This photo is just thrown into the box of treasure. It’s not from my Mom’s side, so that puts it in the New Jersey, New York side of the family. Of course, that side came from Ireland, England, and Germany. So your guess is as good as mine about the origin of this photo.
