Mays and Barker Families

Today is a beautiful day, and it’s making me feel very productive. I’m sitting in the living room on my laptop and talking with Grandpa Moore. He’s already cleared up some Thorward things for me that I was unclear on. Today is devoted to the Mays family though. I’ve got to keep moving forward towards my summer goal.

I’m up to Millard Mays in my family file. I know he married Nora Barker. I was looking in the Kentucky Birth Index on Ancestry.com to verify some of her children on the census. I ended up having to go to some more extreme measures to find one of the children, because they just weren’t showing up for some reason. When I did that, I might have found out what happened to Millard’s sister Barbara.

Diary of Llewellyn: May 16, 1923

Supper in charge of Mrs Winanas, Mrs Glazier & Mrs Le Roy Sullivan. No Teacher’s Training. Talked over Installation Service for Sunday night. Mildred C & I stayed for Prayer Meeting. I went down to Mildred after and stayed till 10:30. Ernest & Roswell stayed for Quarterly Conference. Ma, Pa, & Geo went to circus. Geo went with Joe, Donald Moore, Cliff Young in Geo’s Car.

Diary of Llewellyn: May 13, 1923

Geo & I went down to Bloomfield after floral pieces. Pa went to Paterson to meet Aunt Aggie & Uncle Rene, Marguerite, John & Irving. Aunt Grace’s funeral service at 2:30. We went over about 1 o’clock. Songs sang at funeral – Face to Face – Beautiful Isle of Somewhere – Beautiful Flowers. Mr Leates preached sermon. We took Aunt Aggie & folks to Paterson. Geo took Irving & John, Mickey Ryan in his car. Mother’s Day. Geo & I got Ma 1 dozen white carnations at Bishops in Bloomfield.

Diary of Llewellyn: May 11, 1923

Went up to town at noon and bought black veils. At night we went down to get floral pieces at Bishop’s in Bloomfield. We got a pillow & a wreath for Uncle Rene. Went over to Roseland. Uncle Wal, Aunt Jess & Anna & Renie Leonard there. Ralph & Russ took Grace Walker to Plainfield. Ralph got in from Detroit about 1 o’clock. Anna came from Pottsville & Russ met her at Elizabeth at 11 o’clock.
