Did you know that Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day? I sure didn’t! Not until I came across a set of pictures that had Decoration Day 1923 written on the back. In fact, it wasn’t until 1967 when it was officially declared Memorial Day by federal law!
Beautiful Day. Appointment with Farrington at 5 o’clock. Asked Mr Tillston if I could go at 3 o’clock. Took 3:40 on D. L & W. Had tooth pulled. Went down to the cemetery with Ma. Drove car home. Fixed white wool crepe skirt on belt.
Beautiful Day. Went home on 5:18 to Montclair to get skirt but it was not done. Rehearsal for play – decided to call it off. Hazel, Gertrude, Irene & myself sat on front porch talking. Ma came out decided to have a cake sale.
Beautiful Day. Went to SS & church in morning. Layed down until about 3 o’clock. Pa, Ma & I then took ride up to Newfoundland & Stockholm. Got home about 7 o’clock. Ma & Pa took ride after they had supper but I went to bed. Geo – Donald – 2 Smiths & Holly went swimming. Got 2 bridge then went down to Verona Lake. Geo upset Dinl. Smith & Holly in the water canoe.
Beautiful Day. Knitted all afternoon. Took walk down to cemetery around 5 o’clock. Ruth G & I went to see Peg of My Heart at Cald. Movies. Saw La Moss & Cailin Carpenter’s.
You may or may not be wondering where I have been lately. It just so happens I’m on active jury duty. I finished up a trial yesterday and I’m free today, after that, only the judge knows!
In the midst of all this, my grandfather moved to Southern Maryland. So to say my life has been hectic would be an understatement! It’s all going good though, I just have a busy few weeks ahead of me. I’m hoping to settle back into my routine in the next week or so, or at least finding a new one. I haven’t had much time for computer related things. I’ve been falling asleep much earlier then I used to! I guess that’s the results of a busy lifestyle!
The great thing is that I’m getting plenty of stories from Grandpa. Even some new pictures!
Lovely Day. Went to choir rehearsal. Ernest not and Roswell said he stayed in New York. Junior Prom at Monorwinesch (? very jumbled) Inn. Out about Ralph Smith stealing things from trains. Mrs Wooley buried in Cald. cemetery.
Beautiful Day. Class meeting at Hazel Vandervort’s & Wilhelmina could not go. Dorothy & Gertrude only ones that went. Epworth League business meeting & social at church. We got through business meeting about 9:15. Left church about 10:50. Miss S, Miss W and Miss Peters went to see ‘Enemies of Women’.
No supper. Had short Teachers Training. Ruth away & she asked me to play in Prayer Meeting. Epworth League Cabinet meeting after Prayer Meeting. Ernest took Enid home in flivver and then me. Roswell & he went to West Orange about 10:30 after his grandmother. Beautiful Day.
Rehearsal for our play. La Moss to come out but got on the trolley with Jack Cook. Ernest walked home with Ottilie.
